Our clients range in age from a few months (Early Intervention Program) to fifty years (Adults’ Day Services & Vocational
Assistance Program). None of the clients reside at the Center.
As to the infants in the Early Intervention Program, most of
them have individual classes attended by one of their parents.
Either the parents bring them to the two service stations in
Tainan or teachers go to their homes. Some of the children get individualized support in their kindergartens. The children from
the Pre-school & Primary School Sections and the clients of the
Adults Program are with a few exceptions brought to the Center
by school bus. Some of them can be taught how to ride the
bicycle or how to use public transportation. We consider it
important that persons with disabilities continue to live in their
natural community close to their parents, brothers, sisters and neighbors. |

| The Center has five sections in which the clients are taught by specialized educators and therapists with the help of an “Individual Educational Program” or “Individual Rehabilitation Program”: |
| • |
Early Intervention Program: infants with developmental delay
from birth to 6 years. |
| • |
Pre-school Program: ages 3 to 6. |
| • |
Primary School Program: children with profound and multiple disabilities, ages 6 to 12. |
| • |
Adults Program: ages 15 and up. |
| • |
Vocational Rehabilitation Program, Vocational Training &
Supported Employment : ages 18 and up. |
|
An education supervisor makes sure that on all levels the individual education or rehabilitation programs are made and followed properly, so that the best possible results may be attained. The supervisor
also makes the necessary arrangements for students visiting our Center or teachers doing their practical training here in St. Raphael.
The Tainan City Bureau of Labor Affairs entrusted St. Raphael with
the operation of the “Employment Assistance Evaluation” for people with disabilities. This service is run by St. Raphael’s Vocational Assistance Section. |

During its first years, St. Raphael Opportunity Center was much dependent on financial support from abroad. But during the last two decades Taiwan has become wealthier. Today, government allowances cover approximately one third of all our expenses; another third comes from the clients' tuition, which depending on their families' financial situation is subsidized by the government; and the rest, at present over NT$ 20,000,000 (or 420,000€ / 660,000 US$) per year, has to
be raised by St. Raphael. Since this is a very heavy burden, we have to work hard in order to find more individual and corporate supporters. Without the generous support of many St. Raphael couldn't continue its services. |
